Tree cabling

Tree cabling

When a tree is rather large, among other situations, a loss of balance may occur and it may be necessary to help the plant to hold on well. For younger trees, especially freshly planted ones, a stake may be helpful. This is a pole to which the growing plant is attached. This method, which is more widely known, is part of the guying techniques. Its purpose is to ensure the stability of the tree while waiting for the roots to take hold, because then it will be able to stand upright without support. Thus protected, the tree becomes able to resist situations that threaten it, such as a storm or a shock that normally destabilizes it. However, there are countless opportunities to use guying. Without being able to name them all, here are some of them.

Problems of stature

City plants and rural plants do not grow in the same circumstances. In the city, a tree has much more space for it. It does not have to share it with several neighbors in a relatively small space, such as in the woods. As a result, it is very often flooded with light throughout the day. So it grows quickly, and the structure of the tree may be affected.

Thus, too much magnification of the head of the plant in relation to the lower branches can occur and thus threaten its stability. In such cases, the trajectory of plant development should be corrected, in particular by judicious combination of pruning and guying.

Branches weakened after the passage of a thunderstorm

When thunderstorms hit, it's a hard time for city trees. Their rural counterparts benefit from their proximity to other vegetation, and this situation provides them with natural mutual assistance. This is very useful to them in case of storms.

In urban areas, it's a whole different story... Trees have a lot more space. It is rarer that they can be as closely surrounded as in the forest. In comparison, there are more opportunities to be mistreated by violent storms. An imbalance can result. When the consequence is severe, to the point of being dangerous, you might think that there will be nothing else to do but to cut down that beautiful tree to which you are attached. But be aware that guying can be very beneficial, and who knows, your beloved plant might just come out of it. So give it a chance by joining us at 450-600-4545. We will carefully evaluate the situation.

Multi-shafts or cracks

Trees may also have more than one trunk. This is a potential problem. There is obviously no room in the center for all the trunks at the same time. So they will have to get out of alignment as they grow. Since each has its own branches, they too will expand as they grow. An increasing spreading force comes to occur over time, at the junction of the trunks. A more or less complete fracture could occur. If you own such a tree, it is therefore recommended that you inspect your tree often, looking for the slightest sign of injury, especially where the trunks meet. Especially since any crack is an irresistible invitation for insects or disease. If these injuries also occur, the risk of a clean break increases.

Also, as soon as you see any worrisome cracks in a plant, multi-trunk or not, call Emondage Saint-Bruno on the spot. Our specialized team will be able to assess the risks and suggest the appropriate intervention. Our experts will analyze whether the plant has progressed to the point where it must be cut down, whether guying is still possible, and so on.

Low branches

If you are observant, you will have noticed that the lower branches usually grow larger than their higher counterparts. This is a natural phenomenon that is relatively easy to understand. As you gain altitude, the upper branches are at the forefront of sunlight. If the lower branches did not develop a compensatory strategy, they would be even for a damaging lack of light. So they grow in width, the malines, so that they too can capture their daily dose of light. Except that this adaptation device can sometimes lead to a threatening asymmetry, making the stability of the tree precarious. This is the kind of circumstance where guying is appropriate. It sometimes prevents drastic cuts of part of the lower branch. Saint-Bruno permit
