Stump removal

Stump grinder

Stump grubbing is, of course, nothing more than removing a tree stump from the ground after cutting it down.  Except that the gesture is not trivial for all that. The use of specialized tools is highly recommended. These tools allow you to carry out the work quickly and without collateral damage to the land, all with environmental concerns in mind.

Why doing stump removal?

There are more people who think that spinning is a waste of time than you might think. After all, they say, the stump doesn't bother anyone, and it can still be used if you're less creative. Not only does it give off an old-fashioned look, but you can also add colorful flowers to your garden.

For an informed decision, however, the cons must also be weighed. A strain left in place is not without consequences.

Unpleasant bugs, such as carpenter ants

Another possible consequence of a stump left in place is that being dead wood, it will putrefy little by little. These are conditions that attract insects, possibly carpenter ants, since it is wood. Even at a good distance from your home, you are not necessarily safe. Indeed, carpenters know how to spread out. Thus, their main nest is often surrounded by satellite nests that can be located up to 75 meters away. Which is not very reassuring.

As a training effect, rot does not only attract carpenter ants and other insects, its smell also attracts other animals, such as skunks, raccoons ... who will come to visit you regularly. This effect is also something you certainly want to avoid.

The regrowth of a tree

Tree growing back on a stump in Saint-Bruno
First of all, we forget that a stump is the remnant of a tree, which had roots, and this root network, well it's still there, buried in the ground. There is still life left. It is not because the roots are inconspicuous that they will not fulfill their nourishing function, even after the tree has been cut down. What is the point? Well, nature is going to start all over again. Shoots will start to invade the abandoned stump. The woods are littered with stumps covered with shoots. You've certainly seen them on a visit to the forest. There's no reason why it shouldn't be like that in your home; roots are roots everywhere. So you'll have to cut the shoots, and they'll come back, and you'll have to cut them over and over again... It may seem trivial to you, but the repetition and the uselessness of it will wear you out. Avoid such useless tasks. A property is already a lot of maintenance to add to your maintenance costs. So call us, Emondage Saint-Bruno, for our stump removal service. You will receive a free cost estimate.

Space saving and security

Aren't you like any other citizen, eager to optimize the available space on your property? In urban areas, where the density is higher than in rural areas, each section of land is very important. You will agree that if you have the land grubbed down, you will recover the area that would otherwise be unusable. Another aspect that should not be overlooked is that a stump is also a potential danger of injury. It's so easy to accidentally hit it on the way through!

The value of a property

If you are planning to sell your property, this is an excellent reason to have your stump removed. Common sense indicates that a very well-maintained property is perceived as having more value than a similar property that is less well maintained. Also, isn't it because you want to get the highest possible price and it would be unfortunate if a single stump would lower your selling price or cause the sale itself to fail? You should know that it will also be possible to plant a new tree in exactly the same spot where the stump removal took place.

Mushroom

The idea that the stump will disappear by itself, without us having anything else to do but let it sleep, that it is only a matter of time since it will rot, is sometimes tenacious. The point then forgotten is that rotting is pleasing to mushrooms, their presence being undesirable. Since the putrefaction process takes time, there will be a long period of it.

Chemical products

The chemical option remains to be seen. The use of such products is often tempting. But it is not without risk. Poisoning and pollution can result. Imagine that cheerful and therefore carefree children get a little too close to the area concerned or that your pets sniff out the particular smell and head towards it out of curiosity. Then your action can also contaminate the water table or the soil. What would happen to your trees or any vegetation growing nearby?  Finally, some municipal by-laws prohibit the use of these chemicals because of the environmental impact they can have.

Tractor or excavator

The mechanical mode is also often used for stump grubbing. Nothing is more expeditious than a tractor or an excavator to remove a stump and the root mass clinging to it! No doubt about it. Except that the method comes with a little extra charge. Think about it, such motorized behemoths don't move around as you would like them to, or wherever you want them to. They move coarsely, they don't allow precise movements. They are also heavy. So think of the destruction of your land that they will leave where they pass. What should you do next, or have done? You will have to restore everything, and therefore, pay for the surplus. And that was probably not planned. On top of that, you will also have harvested a big hole where the roots were, much bigger than you expected. You'll also need soil to fill it up. And you may not have considered this step either.
